Los Angeles Times Festival of Books has asked us back this year! If you live in Southern California and would like to be one of the Ten DimeStories Authors who will read live on the Etc Stage on Saturday, April 24, polish your best Dimes and read at any DimeStories event in February or March and you’ll be considered. Accepted authors will be notified by the end of March. If you haven’t been to the Festival, it’s and amazing weekend of authors and storytellers and booksellers and just literary ooze streaming down the sidewalks.
Give DimeStories podcasts subscriptions to your lover for Valentine’s Day! It’s free! But they’ll never suspect when they hear the likes of Jack Handey, Scott Carrier and our very own Scott Barbour and Victoria Melekian. Subscribe today, download the current episodes, sync your iPod and listen on your way to work. Many, many more dimestories are in production for future iTunes episodes. Want to be on iTunes? Then write your best damn story and read at one of our open mics. Our curators are standing by for selections.
Join us for the second Dime-Off of 2010. February’s Dime-Off will be on Wednesday, the 17th at 8pm. After February, mark your calendars for the second Tuesdays of the month. Dime-Offs are held at UCSD’s The Loft. February’s themes are: allergies and unwelcome guests.
Join Sundance Film Festival maven Kimberly Wetherell as she hostesses DimeStories Brooklyn on February 7th. Get there early to sign up to read. Readings start promptly at 7pm, and the first gong rings at 7:03pm! Warm us with your 3-minute stories.
This Tuesday, January 12th at 8pm, the Dime-Off starts its UCSD kick-off event. You don’t have to be a student to compete, you just have to write the best damn story to the theme, “Teeth” OR “Misunderstanding”. You will be judged by your peers. Check out Live Events Dime-Off San Diego for more details on how it works. If you’re chicken, but you think you might like to see how it’s done, come just to listen. But be prepared for blood and sweat splattering from inside the ring. Or volunteer to be a judge! Just ask us at the door and we’ll supply you with official status. $5 entrance, students pay-as-you-can.
DimeStories Brooklyn at Barbes at 7pm on December 3rd! First DimeStories Open Mic of the new decade! Please note that the time is wrong on the newsletter. It’s 7pm, not 8pm You’ll miss half the show if you show up at 8.
Who will be the first person to read a DimeStory in the new year??
